Our promise is in our name

Do you sometimes hear laundry lingo being thrown ‘round like a pair of mismatched socks? Does it send you into a spin?

Knowing your RPM from your hard mount can save you time, money and probably a cloth or two. So, we thought it was time to demystify the jargon.

This guide will help you make sense of terms that might otherwise make you want to throw in the towel.

Let’s dive in.

AS/NZS 4146:2000

This is the gold standard for Australian laundry practices. It ensures infection control and elimination. And it’s essential for any commercial laundry operation.

It makes sure all laundry processes meet the guidelines for hygiene.

Example: AS/NZS 4146:2000 is the rulebook we swear by.

Chemical disinfection

Chemical disinfection involves using detergents and chemicals in the washer to control infections. Think of it as giving germs a chemical one-two punch.

Example: Chemical disinfection is not just a cleaner; it’s a powerful ally in the fight against bacteria.

Dependable

That’s us! Your dependable, go-to mates for all things laundry. But you already knew that.

Example: Dependable Laundry Solutions is the best in the biz.

G-force

G-force isn’t just for astronauts or rollercoasters. It’s a way to measure the final spin speed (RPM). And understanding it can be a game-changer.

In the world of commercial laundries, more g-force means more force being applied to extract water from clothes.

An effective g-force shortens drying times and ensures fabrics come out less wrinkled.

Example: If an astronaut experienced the same g-force as my new Maytag Commercial washer, they’d travel light years.

Hard mount

Old-school hard-mount washers need chemical anchoring because they lack a suspension system. These dependable units might be more work to install, but once they’re in place, they’re in it for the long haul.

They’re designed to handle high volumes and intense cycles without missing a beat.

Example: This hard-mount washer could survive the apocalypse and still clean my clothes.

High-efficiency detergents

High-efficiency detergents are formulated for use in high-efficiency washing machines, like Maytag Commercial Front Load Washers, which use less water and energy than your average washer.

But these machines have a catch. They need a detergent that can do more with less. That’s where high-efficiency detergents come in. Another plus? Not as many suds!

Example: There is no true love like that between high-efficiency detergents and high-efficiency washers.

Multi-load

Multi-load machines handle multiple standard loads at once, with a capacity of 14kg or more. Impressive!

They are the heavy hitters of the laundry world. The humble overachievers. The game changers for businesses with high-volume laundry needs.

This makes them a smart investment for large hotels, hospitals and industrial settings where bigger really is better.

Example: I just smashed out all my laundry in one go with my new multi-load washer.

On-Premise Laundry (OPL)

On-Premise Laundry (OPL) means businesses wash their own clothes and linens instead of outsourcing.

For hotels, hospitals and gyms, an OPL set-up means faster turnaround times and complete control over the laundering process. It’s all about keeping things in-house – which will reduce your outsourcing costs in the long run.

Example: OPL is ideal. We don’t want anyone seeing our dirty laundry.

RPM

Think of RPM – Revolutions Per Minute – as the speedster of your laundry room. It’s about getting the job done faster.

RPM is the final spin speed of your washer. The higher the RPM, the drier your clothes come out, meaning less time in the dryer. And a cut on energy costs.

It’s like having a turbo boost for your wash!

Example: My old machine’s energy costs were breaking the bank, but my new one has a higher RPM – so it’s no worries!

Single-load

A single-load machine is designed for a standard load of washing (around 8-10kg), which is perfect for commercial settings.

It’s your everyday workhorse, tackling your typical laundry needs with ease.

Example: This single-load is my new best mate, it’s so reliable and efficient.

Soft mount

Soft-mount washers come with a suspension system, making them easy to install and capable of reaching those high RPMs. Think of them as the gymnasts of laundry machines.

These washers can reach high extraction speeds without causing excess vibration, making them ideal for locations where noise reduction is crucial.

They’re the smooth operators of the laundry world. They offer flexibility and high performance.

Example: Michael Jackson actually wrote Smooth Criminal about my new soft-mount washer.

Thermal disinfection

A process that uses heat in the washer for infection control, thermal disinfection is the hot topic in keeping things germ-free.

Perfect for healthcare settings or anywhere hygiene is paramount.

Example: Thermal disinfection gives these germs a one-way ticket to oblivion.

TurboVent

Maytag Commercial’s TurboVent technology allows dryers to flue (discharge gases or air) longer distances and reduces dry cycles.

The shorter drying cycle means less wear and tear on fabrics, keeping linens and clothes looking fresh. This results in a quicker turnaround, leading to happier customers.

It’s a game-changer for businesses dealing with large volumes of laundry.

Example: Some heroes don’t wear capes. Like this TurboVent technology.

Vended

When we say vended, we’re talking about coin or card-operated laundry equipment.

Vended machines are the backbone of public laundromats, student accommodations and shared laundry facilities. For operators, vended machines mean a steady income without the hassle of managing payment collections.

It’s a win-win!

Example: The most underrated sight in travelling is that of a vended machine at the hotel.
