Our promise is in our name

International Women’s Day is a moment to pause and recognise the leaders who shape industries quietly, consistently and with purpose. At Dependable Laundry Solutions, we’re proud to celebrate one of our own today — Gabrielle Worthington, Owner and Director, whose leadership has helped build a business that the essential service sectors of Australia rely on every day.

This year, we sat down with Gabrielle to talk about her journey, the realities of leading in a technical industry, and what she sees ahead for Dependable Laundry Solutions and the broader commercial laundry sector. Her words speak for themselves.

Gabrielle Worthington

Owner & Director, Dependable Laundry Solutions
Welshpool, Western Australia

“When people hear “laundry solutions”, they often think of machines. I think about people, systems, and trust.

Laundry sits quietly behind almost every essential service — healthcare, aged care, hospitality, mining, accommodation, and community services. When laundry operations fail, everything else feels it. My role, and the role of Dependable Laundry Solutions, has always been about ensuring the invisible backbone of these industries remains strong, reliable, and operational.

International Women’s Day is a reminder that leadership doesn’t always begin with a grand plan. Sometimes it begins simply with saying yes to responsibility, learning relentlessly, and building something dependable over time.”

Question & Answer

Her Story — Personal & Leadership Journey

What was your pathway into this industry and role?

My pathway wasn’t linear. Like many business owners, I stepped into opportunity before I felt fully ready. What drew me in was the complexity — the combination of engineering, logistics, customer relationships, and operational problem-solving. I quickly realised this industry rewards resilience and practical thinking.

Over time, I moved from learning the mechanics of equipment to understanding the bigger picture: how operational efficiency impacts entire organisations.

Did you always see yourself leading a national business?

No — and I think that’s important to say. Leadership grew out of commitment rather than ambition alone. Each stage required stepping slightly beyond my comfort zone. Growth happened because we focused on doing things properly, consistently, and with integrity.

What was the drive behind your decision to get into laundry solutions?

I saw an industry that mattered but was often overlooked. Reliable laundry operations directly affect safety, hygiene, compliance, and dignity — particularly in healthcare and aged care environments. That responsibility resonated deeply with me.

Industry Exploration — The Real Work

What are the biggest operational pressures your clients are facing right now?

Right now, clients are navigating workforce shortages, rising operational costs, stricter compliance standards, and increasing expectations around sustainability. Facilities can no longer afford downtime. Equipment must work efficiently, safely, and predictably every day.

What does “dependability” actually look like in practice?

Dependability means showing up before problems become crises. It’s preventative maintenance, honest communication, durable equipment selection, and long-term partnerships. It means clients know they can rely on us not just when things are easy — but when operations are under pressure.

How has the industry evolved in the past 20 years?

We’ve seen a shift from basic equipment supply to fully integrated operational solutions. Automation, data tracking, energy efficiency, water management, and compliance requirements now shape every decision. Laundry is no longer just functional — it’s strategic infrastructure.

International Women’s Day — Women in Industry

What advice would you give young women entering technical or industrial fields?

Don’t wait to feel perfectly prepared. Technical industries need diverse thinking, strong communication, and leadership grounded in problem-solving. Confidence grows through competence, and competence comes from showing up consistently.

There is space for women in every operational environment — not because we are invited, but because we bring value.

What key skills should others develop?

  • Operational literacy — understand how systems actually work
  • Resilience under pressure
  • Clear communication
  • Financial awareness
  • Long-term relationship building
  • Adaptability to technological change

Technical knowledge matters, but reliability and integrity build lasting leadership.

Legacy & Longevity

What values from the early days still hold true?

Hard work, accountability, and relationships built on trust. Those principles don’t age. Technology changes; values shouldn’t.

What’s the biggest shift in the market you’ve seen?

The recognition that operational efficiency equals organisational success. Laundry operations are no longer treated as an afterthought — they are recognised as essential infrastructure.

What are you most proud of when you look back on your journey?

I’m proud of building a business known for consistency. Not just growth, but stability — supporting clients, creating employment, and contributing to industries that serve communities every day.

Forward Looking — Impact & The Next 20 Years

What does the next 20 years of Dependable Laundry Solutions look like?

The future is smarter, more sustainable, and more connected. We will continue evolving alongside our clients, integrating automation, efficiency analytics, and environmentally responsible solutions while maintaining the human relationships that built this company.

What will be most important — sustainability, automation, compliance, durability?

All four are interconnected. Sustainable practices reduce costs and environmental impact. Automation improves consistency and workforce sustainability. Compliance protects people. Durability ensures long-term operational resilience.

Success will come from balancing innovation with reliability.

What impact do you want the business to have beyond laundry rooms?

I want Dependable Laundry Solutions to contribute to stronger organisations and healthier communities. When essential services run smoothly, people receive better care, workers feel supported, and businesses operate with confidence.

If our work allows hospitals to function safely, aged care residents to live with dignity, and businesses to operate efficiently — then our impact reaches far beyond laundry.

Closing Reflection — The Start

“Every business has a beginning, but leadership is never a single moment. It is a series of decisions made daily — to show up, solve problems, support people, and build something that lasts.

For me, “The Start” wasn’t one day. It was the decision to keep moving forward — and to build something dependable enough to stand the test of time.” — Gabrielle Worthington.
