We caught up with him to find out more.

 

A wealth of experience, a personal approach

At Dependable, our team isn’t just about selling machines. It’s about people – plain and simple.

Take our specialists, like Phil. With roots in retail management, Phil eventually shifted to appliance sales, specialising in commercial and industrial laundry equipment.

‘The last 18 years of my career have been all commercial and industrial laundry… big projects like hospitals, prisons, student accommodations and so on,’ he explains.

When Phil joined the Dependable team in 2020, he wasn’t looking for a new job. But our people-first values won him over. As he puts it, ‘I asked Chad whether their priority was sales or service.

And he replied, service, without hesitation. That was music to my ears.’

For the Dependable crew, that’s what it’s all about – helping people, making their lives easier and setting them up with reliable equipment they can trust.

‘When you lead with honesty, care and rock-solid advice, the sale will take care of itself,’ Phil says.

 

Qualifying, not selling

The way we see it, it’s not about selling the flashiest machine. It’s about finding the right one for the job.

As Phil says, ‘If the product’s not suitable, it’s the wrong product.’

That’s why our team takes the time to ask questions – lots of them. We go through a qualifying process with every client to get a real understanding of what they need.

‘I’ll ask, What are you processing? How many loads a day? Is sterilisation required? And if I can get to their site in person, even better,’ Phil explains.

By getting the full picture, our crew makes sure the machine can handle the load and last the distance.

‘You ask the right questions, listen and let them make an informed decision,’ Phil adds. ‘So, whether it’s a fur-heavy vet clinic or a high-traffic hospital, we make sure our client gets the gear
that’ll get the job done right.’

 

Real connections over artificial communication

While the world’s gone digital, the Dependable team still reckons there’s nothing like a good old-fashioned phone call. It’s how we build trust and make real connections.

‘If you can’t do face-to-face, the connection has to be a phone call,’ Phil states. ‘Sure, I send a lot of emails, but the real questions people have in their minds – Can I trust this person? Are they
honest? Are they genuine? – can really only be answered in person.’

For Phil and the team, it’s about making customers aware that they can rely on us, not just getting the job done.

‘With a phone call, people hear my voice, they get a feel for who I am, and that’s huge,’ Phil explains. ‘We make it a point to talk to everyone involved, from the tradies to the end-user. Because if everyone’s on the same page, it takes the load off the customer.’

A mentor, not just a specialist

Phil’s not just great with customers. He’s great with the Dependable team, too. He’s got a soft spot for mentoring – which is why he takes Dependable newbies under his wing.

‘People reach out to me because they know I’ve been in the industry a long time, and I help them understand what questions to ask and what to look for in each job,’ he explains.

But in an industry that’s always changing, you never stop learning.

There’s always new technology, new products. You’ve got to stay on top of it, so you’re putting the right products in the right places.’

That’s why Phil and the team always stay on top of all the latest developments. Whether it’s customers or team members, he gives solid advice that people can count on.

 

Trust, integrity – and going the extra mile

At Dependable, trust isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s the backbone of our business. Phil sums it up best: ‘People trust you when you’re genuine, and my reputation means more to me than any
appliance.’

Phil’s seen that firsthand on plenty of occasions.

‘We’ll often step in to replace or repair machines for people when things go south, even if those machines were bought elsewhere,’ he explains. ‘Then, we’ll sort it out on the backend with the manufacturer. Not many companies would do that.’

But it’s just business as usual at Dependable Laundry Solutions. Doing right by the customer keeps them coming back. Not just for another machine – but for honest advice and support.

At the end of the day, folks like Phil are here to be a real mate to their clients, looking after them the way they’d look after their own family.

As Phil puts it, ‘Treat your customers the way you’d like to be treated. I always say approach each customer as if you’re selling to a friend or family member.’
