Our promise is in our name

Running a commercial laundry isn’t always a walk in the park. Sky-high power bills, water guzzlers and busted machines all add
up.

But the good news? A few smart tweaks can save you a fair whack
of cash.

That’s where I, the Detergent Doctor, come in.

From energy-saving gear to smarter setups, here are my top tips on how to save big – and boost your bottom line.

1. Upgrade your gear and save

Old clunkers might get the job done when it comes to laundry loads, but they can chew through your profits like there’s no tomorrow.

The fix? Invest in energy-efficient equipment.

Yes, it might feel like a big spend, but it pays for itself in the long run.

These bad boys use less water and get the most out of your detergent. That means lower power bills for you, less waste and fewer chemicals going down the drain.

What’s more? It’ll result in more money in your pocket – and a pat on the back from Mother Nature.

2. Improve your water use

We all know water is expensive – especially here in Australia. So, if your laundry is guzzling it, you’re practically washing money away.

So, get smart with your water use.

Start by exploring water recycling options. Capturing and reusing water can help reduce waste and conserve resources.

Next, fine-tune your wash cycles. Not every load needs the same amount of water, soadjust settings based on fabric type and soil level. Because if you’re overfilling machinesor running half-empty loads? That’s dead money.

And don’t forget to keep an eye on leaks and worn-out hoses. Even a slow drip can waste thousands of litres over time!

3. Implement preventative Maintenance

Nothing throws a spanner in the works like a busted machine.

Breakdowns mean downtime, lost revenue and stressed-out staff. And neglecting maintenance makes your industrial machines work harder, cranks up power costs and ups your risk of flooding or fires. Yikes!

The solution? A solid preventative maintenance program for your commercial laundry.

Start with the basics: clean lint traps daily, check hoses and seals regularly and keep moving parts lubricated. And don’t just wing it. Book regular servicing to catch small issues before they turn into wallet-drainers.

A little TLC keeps your laundry running smoothly, boosts its lifespan and saves you fromforking out for emergency repairs.

In short? Look after your machines, and they’ll look after your bottom line.

4. Use quality detergents

Cheaper detergents might look like a bargain, but they cost you more in the long run.

Low-grade suds leave gunk in your machines, don’t always clean properly and can cause nasty buildup. That means more rewashes and extra wear and tear on your gear.

To avoid this, invest in high-quality detergents and chemicals.

The good stuff breaks down grime properly and protects your machines from pesky residue. That means fewer rewashes, less detergent waste and longer-lasting equipment.

Better detergent means better business. So don’t cut corners on suds – your laundry (and wallet) will thank you!

5. Sort your space

Cluttered work areas and a dodgy layout slow everything down.

The fix? Sort your workspace!

Set up your machines, folding tables and storage in a way that makes sense. Keep high- use gear – like detergents and trolley bays – within arm’s reach to prevent staff from zigzagging all over the shop. The less legwork, the faster the workflow.

Invest in proper sorting stations so loads aren’t mixed up or left sitting around. And if you’re short on space? Go vertical.

A well-planned workspace trims labour costs, boosts efficiency in your business and keeps your laundry humming along.

6. Train your crew

If your staff are overloading commercial washers, using too much detergent or running half-empty loads, even the best machines will struggle.

So, train your team properly.

Teach them the basics and make sure everyone knows how to spot maintenance issues (like leaks or weird noises) before they turn into expensive breakdowns.

You’ll see fewer rewashes, less waste, longer-lasting gear – and more smiles on you staff’s faces. A confident team is a happy team, after all.
